Handwriting personalization
You can improve how well your PC recognizes your handwriting by providing handwriting samples.
There are two ways to help the PC better recognize your handwriting:
Target specific characters or words that aren't being recognized correctly
Teach the tool to recognize your handwriting style
If you know which characters or words cause the most recognition errors, the tables in the following sections can help you decide which option to start with to reduce how often you get those errors. If your handwriting in general isn’t being recognized correctly, it can be worth the effort to complete each section several times.
To open Handwriting Personalization
To open Handwriting Personalization, swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen and move the mouse pointer down), tap or click Search, enter Handwriting Personalization in the search box, tap or click Apps, and then tap or click Handwriting Personalization.
Target specific recognition errors
This table shows which options to start with in the Target specific recognition error section of the tool.
Type of error | Option to try |
---|---|
A specific character (a letter, number, punctuation mark, or symbol) is often recognized incorrectly when you write the character by itself—for example, in the character pad or the correction area of Input Panel. | Character or word you specify |
A specific word or short phrase is often recognized incorrectly. | Character or word you specify If the word or phrase you're trying to target is longer than the 20-character limit on the Enter the character or word you want to target page, you can break it into several parts. For example, "http://www.contoso.com" is too long but you can break it into "http://" "www." "contoso" and ".com" and target each part. |
Letters, numbers, and symbols are incorrectly recognized as other characters that have a similar shape, such as the letter l and the number 1, or the uppercase S and lowercase s. | Characters with similar shapes If the characters you're having problem with aren't listed there, use Character or word you specify instead. |
Teach the recognizer your handwriting style
This table shows which options to start with in the Teach the recognizer your handwriting style section of the tool.

Automatic learning
Automatic learning collects data about the words you use and how you write them so that the handwriting recognizer can learn your vocabulary and handwriting style.
Any data collected by automatic learning is stored in your user profile and isn't sent to Microsoft. To learn about what data is stored and how it's used, go to the Handwriting Recognition and On-Screen Keyboard section of our privacy statement.
You can turn automatic learning on or off at any time.
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Search (or if you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search), enter Language in the search box, tap or click Settings, and then select Language.
Tap or click Advanced settings.
Under Personalization data, choose whether you want to use automatic learning (recommended).
Notes
If you turn off automatic learning, any data that has been collected and stored by automatic learning is deleted.
If you can't change the automatic learning settings, those settings might be controlled by Group Policy. If a setting is unavailable, contact your system administrator. For more info, see Почему мне не удается изменить параметры Windows?
Automatic learning uses the Windows search index to learn your vocabulary. If there's a problem with the index or if Windows Search is turned off, it can affect automatic learning. For more info about the Windows search index, see Indexing and Search: Frequently asked questions.
